In the Soviet Union, an udarnik was an official title given to workers who were highly productive and demonstrated exemplary work discipline. The term comes from the expression "udarny trud," which means "superproductive, enthusiastic labor". The title was awarded with a badge, certificate, and cash prize. The promotion of the title was developed in the 1950s to encourage a communist attitude towards work.
