An excellent group here of original WWII German Faithful Service Medals for 25 and 40 years of service, complete with award boxes and documents. The 25 Year medal was awarded on May 31, 1940. The 40 Year medal was awarded on April 28, 1942. Both medals were awarded to the same man, Otto Beyer, who is credited as a career "straßenwärter" (road attendant) for the German state on  both documents. The ribbon on the 40 Year medal shows fading which is clearly depicted in photos. Award boxes are in good condition, with the 25 Year box being maker marked "Gold-. u. Silber-Scheideanstalt Oberstein, Franz Reischauer."

On January 30th, 1938, Hitler instituted the Faithful Service Decoration, in three classes, to recognize long-serving civil servants and public works personnel. The decorations were intended to be an incentive for the civilian population to foster workplace loyalty and create a stable civil service.
